A Modified Chemical Analysis for Carbon Monoxide in Respiratory Gases.

Abstract
A new chemical quantitative analytical method- for carbon monoxide in respiratory gases was devised and tested for the possible sources of errors. The principle of the method is that carbon dioxide gas which was produced after passing CO gas through heated iodine pentoxide powder is analyzed by Scholander micro gas analyzer and carbon monoxide concentration can be determined by calculation.
This method has several advantages over usual quantitative analytical methods:
1) This method requires relatively small amount of sample gas, about 8 ml.
2) The analytical procedure is simple and ¢¥about 20 minutes of times is needed for one analysis.
3) The apparatus is small in size and can be constructed easily with trifle expense.
4) Analyzable range of carbon monoxide concentration is from 100 to 0.1 per cent v:ith the accuracy of about 0.02 per cent at 1 per cent concentration of carbon monoxide.
